In the coffee capsules's market people consume 50 million of pods everyday. Made from a combination of plastics and aluminium with organic matter inside, the coffee pods are not biodegradable. It takes 150 to 500 years for these capsules to breakdown in landfill. People shouldn't sacrifice the environment for convenience.
Regarding the plant-based milks's market, most of these alternatives are in carton format. If you care about the environment, Tetra Paks are not the good choice as these cannot be truly recycled.
Tetra Paks are not recyclable or compostable because they combine paper and plastic - and some even contain hidden metal. These are made from paperboard (made from wood), 20% of polyethylene (a type of plastic) and 5% of aluminium.
Specifically, for the milk cartons with a round middle cap, you have to remove the plastic spout first to give them a shot at being compostable. Impossible mission!
There is only one solution: these have to be trashed. There is no green hope for these overzealous fusions.
65% of world's population is lactose intolerant. This means they cannot consume cow's milk because their bodies are unable to digest lactose, a type of sugar mainly found in milk and dairy products. If they do, they suffer abdominal cramps and bloating, flatulence, diarrhea.
Cow's milk allergy is an immune reaction to the protein in milk. As this is a food allergy it can be very dangerous and might also cause additional symptoms. There could be some mild reactions like flushing, rash, hives or a runny nose. Others can be much more serious, like trouble breathing, wheezing, swelling of the tongue and throat and even loss of consciousness.
Most of the non-dairy alternatives available in the market are in carton format. This is inconvenient because if we want to use such a small portion to add this milk to our coffee, we have to buy the whole carton.
Later, everytime we want to use this milk in our coffee we have to heat it first and then storage in the fridge.
Plant-based milks tetrapaks contain nuts, grainsโฆโฆbut do you really know which is the real proportion?
Unlike liquid plant-based milk which is 90% water and just 10% nutrition, our product is way ahead in nutritional value. For example, in a glass of a commercial almond milk there is only ONE almond and the rest is water with sugar. Some brands do not add sugar but as in a gallon of almond milk there are only 5 almonds, they have to add an almond flavor and an ingredient to make it feel thicker.
Finally, have you ever check the ingredients list of a plant-based milk in carton format? You have probably found unknown components that are unreadable. Complicated words. Or even worst, animal-based ingredients.
Regarding cow's milk, this is not obtained from a sustainable industry. Dairy farming can lead to the loss of ecologically important areas, such as prairies, wetlands, forests; while cows produce greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change.
A 2018 study by researchers at Oxford University concluded that producing a glass of cowโs milk has at least three times more environmental impact than producing a glass of any non-dairy milk.
If you take milk in your coffee, that will account for two-thirds of the carbon footprint of the drink. By swapping dairy milk for non-dairy that cup of coffeeโs footprint reduces a lot.
Plant-based milks Tetra Paks have to be consumed in a few days and stored in refrigerator. This product is perishable, and most of us do not consume a whole carton of milk.
If you find that youโre throwing out them, even if itโs a small-ish amount, youโre losing cash.
But money is not the only concern. We also have to stop wasting food to cut climate change.
When food decomposes in landfill, it releases methane gas, a greenhouse gas that warms the planet at a rate 86 times greater than carbon dioxide. If food waste were a country, it would be the third largest emitter of greenhouse gases, just behind the US and China.
Did you know that globally the amount of food waste generated is almost four times as much as the total amount of plastic produced ?
Throwing away food wastes the resources which went into producing, transporting and buying that food. It also wastes a potentially valuable resource that could be redistributed to humans, recycled as animal feeds, or even converted to fuel and energy.
Fortunately, there are many things we can do at home to reduce our food waste.
One option is use Cerealthy capsules. This is a non-perishable drink which allows everyone to keep it for a long time without wasting money and food.
These are good for your Health, good for the Planet and good for your wallet !
The dairy industry is unbelievably cruel and ultimately unethical.
Like all mammals, cows must give birth in order to make milk. Like human mothers, they carry their babies for nine months, then begin to lactate for the sole purpose of nourishing their young.
In nature, calves stay with their moms for nearly a year, but in the dairy industry, theyโre stolen from their moms right after theyโre born.
After the calves are torn away from their mothers, the females are either killed or forced to become part of the dairy herd and start giving milk, too, but the males are sent off to be raised for veal, a kind of meat made from young cows. Calves raised for veal spend their short lives inside a tiny crate all alone. Theyโre not allowed to move around and develop their muscles because that keeps their flesh soft.
To keep them lactating at maximum yields, cows are artificially and repeatedly and forcibly impregnated year after year. The constant cycle of forced pregnancy and birth creates a huge surplus of calves.
Cows naturally live to be about 20 years old, but the ones used for milk are usually killed when theyโre only 5. This is because theyโre forced to have babies over and over again (that makes them keep giving milk), and their bodies just wear out.
